Government billed for C-ChargeSource: Fleet WeekFigures released by the Government have shown an annual average bill of £138, 137 for congestion charging by its car and dispatch agency, plus £3696 for motoring fines and a further £243 in c-charge fines. The figures follow a parliamentary written question by Conservative Lord Hanningfield and cover the years from 2003 to 2006 and total £417, 941. The amount covers the Governments fleet, 35% of which are ministerial cars. By investing a similar amount of money in to alternate fuels as the Government pays in congestion charges every year it could have converted approximately 50 vehicles to run on LPG that would not only be exempt form the c-charge but also benefit the environment and save around 40% on fuel costs.
