Fuel prices record high and rising

Source: The Daily Mail

The price of petrol is rising by about 1p every 10 days

Motorists were warned yesterday to prepare for even higher petrol prices.

The oil price has hit a record $112 a barrel and the effect will quickly be seen at the pumps.

Luke Bosdet of the AA said: "Every day is a record high. "It just keeps on going up and up and up." He said prices were rising by about 1p every ten days. It now costs £54 to fill up a typical car.

A litre of unleaded costs an average of 107.94p while diesel has hit 117.13p.

Mr Bosdet said the biggest losers were those on low incomes who also lived in the countryside. He said the rural-dwellers were more dependent on cars and tended to have to pay more
at the pump.

Overall transport costs have risen by 7 per cent over the past 12 months, according to the Office for National Statistics. The figures, which are for March, show petrol and diesel prices have jumped by 20.3 per cent in a year.
