LPG for new Ford Transit

Source: ITV News / Fleet Week

The Ford Transit, Britain's top-selling commercial vehicle, will be re-launched this summer with detail front-end restyling plus a redesigned interior, updated features and seven new engines. Six of the engines are diesel, including the new 2.2- and 2.4-litre Duratorq TDCi units developed in conjunction with PSA Peugeot Citroen. The remaining engine is a petrol unit which is suitable to run on LPG. Whilst there will not be a factory fit LPG alternative, Ford claims that a small percentage of buyers prefer petrol with the option of an aftermarket LPG conversion.

A new range of safety and security features will be added to the new model. Two levels of alarm are available as well as Passive Anti-Theft System, hood lock, cable-free doors and a configurable unlocking system. This system means customers can choose which doors to unlock in which order when selected buttons are pressed.

Safety features include ABS, ESP, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Brake Traction Control System (BTCS). A driver's airbag is standard while other airbags are now available as options for the first time.

With the new model, Ford is providing 60 basic structures and body styles. Its Special Vehicle Operations team can also handle any further specifications.

Full technical details, British specifications and prices will be released in the summer.
